Description

Layered with seasoned beef and bacon, this casserole fills the kitchen with garlic and onion aromas as ketchup and Worcestershire sauce bubble beneath golden, gooey cheddar and mozzarella. Each slice offers a savory, cheesy embrace.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 slices bacon cooked and chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Stir in half of the cheddar cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, and the chopped bacon until evenly mixed.
  4. Press the meat mixture into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  5. In a small bowl whisk together ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, then spread the mixture evenly over the meatloaf layer.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the sauce layer.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • Meatloaf can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Add sliced jalapeños on top for extra heat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
