Description

Warm apple slices tossed with lemon and cinnamon nestle under a tender buttery batter that bakes to golden perfection. Each spoonful oozes sweet-tart juices and crisp, comforting crumble.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, 1/3 cup sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar.
  5. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter over the apples without smoothing it out; it will spread as it bakes.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let the cobbler cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream
  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for more depth of flavor
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to three days
  • For a crunchy topping sprinkle a tablespoon of oats or chopped nuts over the batter before baking
