Description

Crunchy on the outside, tender inside, each bite blends cinnamon-spiced apples with a sweet vanilla glaze that delivers a warm, comforting pop of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup peeled and diced apple
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl beat the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, then fold in the diced apple.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop tablespoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches for about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  6. Remove the fritter bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a small bowl whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  8. Dip each fritter bite into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.

Notes

  • Use a tart apple variety like Granny Smith for a nice contrast with the sweet batter
  • Maintain oil temperature to ensure fritters cook evenly without absorbing excess oil
  • Best served fresh and warm for a crisp exterior and tender interior
  • Store any leftover bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days
